Shifter stop removal?

Shifter stop removal? I was told that there is a shifter stop on auto fbodies without a performance gear set that prevents selecting 1st gear. (I have 2.77's and have 2,D,OD) Has anyone removed the shifter stop so they can shift from 1st and up?
