Anyone changed to a smaller AC condenser?
I just swapped radiators in my 01 F-Body. I went to a LT-1 radiator. I am preping for a powerdyne supercharger install. Had to remove the stock fans and use a puller on the passenger side and a 16" pusher on the front. Very hard to push air though the stock condenser so I eliminated it, and mounted the big pusher right to the face of the radiator. The big fan is super thin but still didn't allow enough room for the condenser. Has anyone swapped in a smaller condenser? Also, how much pressure is carried by the ac lines? I will need to extend the existing condenser feeds and am wondering if hose and clamps are up to the pressure. Thanks.

Worm clamps will not work and special hose is used. Generalizing the system functions....on a warm day, 65-85 degrees, static pressure will be close to the ambient temperature. While the system is functioning the low side of the system will run from 35-45 psi and the high side which includes the condensor will run about 100psi plus the ambient temperature. Example 80 degree day...high side psi at about 180psi. Again this is generalizing the pressures, but hope it helps
btw running a smaller condenser could cause the high side pressure to increase. Also, a lack of airflow across the condenser will raise pressure. Both instance will make the 'cool' A/C in the car almost nonexistant due to the low side will also increase pressure.

Thanks for all the info. Guess I better have the hoses made by a local shop. I want to move the condenser forward about two more inches. The radiator support structure will not allow it so I will need to reduce the overall size of the condenser a couple inches in height and width. If it fails I guess I learned another costly lesson.

Plan B. I took things apart and was able to make room for the stock condenser by doing some mods to the core support. I had to remove some material and reshape two areas on each side. I now have the pusher fan in between the condenser and front of the radiator.
