Default Patriot 226 vs Trick Flow Stage 3

Which cam do guys think I should get? I have searched and not too many ppl have used either of these cams so i would like to get some opinions from the cam gurus based on the cam specs.....This will be going in a daily driver, and I would like to get 380+rwhp and around the same torque and I dont want to spin the motor past 6.5k....Although the TFS does have more duration the Patriot cam has XER lobes so I cant decide which would be better.....

TFS Stg 3 - 228/230 .585/.585 112
Patri 226 - 226/226 .585/.585 112

NO WAY IN HELL I would choose a CRANE CAM (TFS) over a COMP CAM. Made they mistake a long time ago. Never again.

I don't know, but I've had bad luck with 3 of them in 3 diff engines.
I have no idea what the problem is, I guess its the lobe design or something.

I ran a "TFS" stage 3 cam once with a Mustang TFS head. It ran like SH**.
I put a COMP CAM in and the car gained not less than 25rwhp. The diff was HUGE. This was the same basic experience I had w/the LS6. I'm sure their cams have been upgraded and for years many thought of them as the "cats meow", but I stay away from them.

The TFS cams are not ground by Crane, as a matter of fact, the cams they have when put on the engine dyno outpowered the Crane cams, and most everything else that was tested. I don't think you can go wrong with the TFS Stg 3 cam.

What kind of dyno numbers did you get with the cam? And most importantly what are you running at the track with this cam?

I have no idea yet man........Im running a mail order tune for right now untill i can get an LS6 intake. Up at my elevation its a good 12.9's combo the way it is on this tune...keep in mind that the normal stock LS1 up here (A4) will run low 14's to a high 13.....100% bone stock i ran 14.2's. havent had a chance to hit the track with this cam but judging from cars i have raced its a high 12's to low 13's cam....will post up as soon as i hit the track.

you must be up pretty damn high, with all your mods in your sig I would expect low 12's high 11's with good tires......

I'd rather go with the TSP 228R on 114 LSA, made by COMP.

228/228 - .588/.588 - 114

That is what I just installed yesterday. I am going to be spraying, thus the 114 LSA, but even if I wasn't I'd prolly go that route anyway.

You are really going to make your cam choice based on $100?

If I were you, I would just deal with the price, and get a cam you know really works well, or don't get one at all. I understand you are on a budget, but that doesn't mean you can't get the best out there, you just may have to wait longer.

Yopu can get the whole kit with Springs, cam, and pushrods from TSP for $589. by the time you piece together your own setup, you may as well get a package. Don't forget to add in $35 or so for a new crank pulley bolt and a new timing cover seal. Might as well change the plugs if they aren't almost new as well.

You really need to understand that the REAL cost for a cam swap is going to be between $800-$1000 including the tune, providing you do the labor. So in the grand scheme of it, $100 is not that much.

Sorry apparently I am not as rich as you....saving $120 is def worth it to me, and $800-$1000 is pretty unrealistic for a cam swap when purchasing all new parts , more like $1200-$1300.....and as for the TSP packages, they are actually $599 and you get 918 springs, push rods and the cam(this doesnt include shipping).....well I can get the patriot cam for $270 shipped, the COMP 918 springs $154 shipped, and COMP pushrods $92 shipped, all that adds up to about $120 in savings after you add shipping to the TSP package....then theres the new retainers, new timing chain, new crank pulley bolt, all the new gaskets, valve spring tool, and the tune......there's your "REAL" cost for a cam swap.....
