Default dumb question

I was wondering how you know which/what production number your car is? I see so many on this board proudly displaying that number/year. Is it in the VIN? I know dumb question...

They know that because their's are special edition vehicles like Firehawks, SS, some WS6's. They get special information from SLP that tells them their build #.

Us regular Z28s and Trans Ams don't have that "luxury"

slpeng.com used to have a section on build numbers for SS and WS6. Don't know if they still do it though.

You can find out your car's factory build number by looking at the VIN number. It's the last six digits of your VIN. GM starts there's at 100,001.

My last six digits are 101171. Therefore, my 'bird was the 1,171 f-body assembled for the 2000 model year (assembled July 1999). You can find out the year and month of assembly by looking at the decal on the driver's door.
