Default need help installing ground control perches on the rear

Well, I went to install koni's and GC adj. perches and springs on the rear today. I got the old stuff out, and have the upper nuts on the shocks done. The problem is that the GC perch won't go all the way down on the driver side. There's some bracing (like 3/16" plates) welded in /\ shape underneath the stock perch. I'm guessing it's for reinforcement since the panhard rod attaches nearby. The GC perch hits it about a third of the way from the tip of the /\. In the installs i've seen online nobody has mentioned this. Is there any fix for this short of cutting either the axle or the GC perch? If so, which should I cut?
