Default Stock air lid mod...anyone try this?

So I was looking at getting an SLP air lid, which is supposed to give 10 to 20 hp, but the price wasn't appealing to my tight budget. I got to looking at my factory lid and noticed a minor detail that isn't on the aftermarket lids. Ok, besides the silencer chamber between the lid and T-body, there's all these ribs or fins on the inside. So thinking I would gain a bit while spending nothing, I got out the trusty Dremel tool and cut the fins out and ground them smooth. Now it resembles the aftermarket lids. I noticed a difference the next day with better throttle response, better passing acceleration on the highway, and when I took my foot off the gas, my Firebird would coast smoothly instead of dipping the nose and slowing! Now to get rid of that silencer chamber... I'll post someting when I get that done, hopefully with some pics 'cause I know it'll look a LOT better! Anyone else try this? Swat

This is a very common free mod. But trust me. Those gains are all in your head. Swapping air lids isn't even a noticeable gain

I seriously doubt you can "feel" any real gain from just a lid. I believe i've heard you can't feel any difference untill you get 10rwhp to the wheels anyway.

You can find a used lid for around $70. That seems pretty cheap to me and I'm on a really tight budget.

depends on the car whether or not you feel a difference. i noticed a difference in mine also but I put a larger maf on also at the same time but still not much difference. All that matters is you think it improved and you are satisfied with it.

The point of the aftermarket lid is to provide a smooth transition from the filter tray to the throttle body. The stock air lid's horse-robbing area is the oval-to-round blip called the air silencer.

There is almost no gain in sanding down the fins, which I believe are to ensure airflow path. If there is any gain, I'd say less than 1 HP.

Sorry, your skepticism won't sway me to think otherwise. Considering the fact that it has been proven.

SLP is also another waste of time. Poor quality products + high horsepower advertisements = SLP. The only thing I have of SLP is their lid.

An expirement testing all aftermarket lids showed the SLP and MTI lids to be the highest gain of horsepower on the Dynojet AND on the track. I chose SLP because I got their lid, brand new, for 109.99 (Christmas Sale). MTI was selling them for 129.99.

why not someone else would have picked up the bill on making the ss and ws6. SLP is a huge waste of time and money.

I like SLP's products but I think they are overpriced a little bit.
