put a new rear main seal in about a month ago, everything was perfect until i went on a 600mile trip. then it started leaking oil from the rear main seal
was i suppose to drive it around for short distances or something for a little bit?

No. I'd say that you got the lip of the seal folded over. There are about three special installation tools (Kent-Moore and W2W are two) on the market to install it without folding the seal back over. In lieu of that, I would recommend taking something like a thin piece of plastic and carefully working the seal around the rear crank hub.
