Default 1980 firebird starts but cuts off

I have a 1980 Firebird. It has the 301 4brl engine. When I first got the car, it ran fine. I changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. I now starts, and then cuts off. If I keep messing with it, it will eventually run. Could anybody tell me what is wrong. Also, when I stomp on the accelerator, it hesitates, then it takes off. Could it be the carb?

sounds like carb. check the timing, and make sure the fuel isnt clogged somewhere. take the carb off, spray clean it well, and make sure nothing got lodged in the fuel line when you were changing the fuel filter. maybe when you swapped the cap, the distributor could have been loose, and you may have inadvertantly turned it. check timing and fuel...not much else it could be.
