Default Messed up idle

So out of nowhere my idle messes up. I'm driving back to college on the expressway and theres a big hill I just push the clutch in and coast down the hill. Well usually my moving idle is 1300-1400ish. Well I push the clutch in and the rpm's just go to 2 grand and wouldn't come down. I finally get off the expressway and to a light and my stopped idle warm is usually 900ish. Well I get to a red light and stop and my idle is stuck at 1500. Finally it starts to go down in 100 rpm increments. It would drop to 1400 then pause then 1300 then pause etc. Why would it do this? Maybe my iac is going bad?

unhook your cruise control from the throttle body once and see if it stops. My cruise control started actin up and it would hold the throttle body open a little. Push in the clutch 2000rpm. So I unhooked it and the throttle body closed, then it idled normal. might not be the problem but its easy to check and see.

Yeh it could be a binding throttle cable or cruise control cable. Possibly a vacuum leak if a hose randomly failed on you. Or the IAC could be at fault like you said.
