Having a pinging sound under hood need help! Hi, I have a 2002 TA it has app 89,000 miles on it and just here recently it has started to make a pinging sound. My best guess would be that it is a lifter knockin, but i am no engine guy. What it does is when ur going up a hill and its in 4th(i have an auto), u can really hear it it gets louder but then u can also hear it if the car is just idleing. So if u can help me it would be greatful. Thanks Alot

Is there any way you can post a sound clip?
Pinging going up a hill is common if you have low octane fuel or dirty combustion chambers.
But thats not your problem if it does it at idle.
You really need a sound clip here or have a mechanic look at it.
