Default Resonator on the LoudMouth

What is the purpose on the resonator on the SLP Loudmouth? What does it do?

it is really low restriction. but qualifies as a muffler so i guess it make it 50 state legal. i belive it is only about 4 inch wide piping

I think since it's a transition from a smaller 3" pipe to a straight thru 4" pipe it just changes the tone of the exhaust. It breaks up the exhaust flow and allows the tone to resonate somewhat before necking back down and it's technically a muffler.
