I was driving my Z today, everything was good. I filled up my tank to full, screwed it on and went for a drive. I smelt gas and got an SES light. I pulled over to check and realized that there was gas all over my 1/4 panel and bumper and the cap was off.

I specifically remember cranking it to three clicks.

Is it possible that the car was overfilled or somehow shot the cap off or maybe the cap is somehow defective?

Should I worry about it?

does the cap look worn, screw the cap in and pull on it to see if it comes off. Was the gas cap in and it was leaking or when you opened the fuel latch did it just fall.

screw it on and try to jiggle it off...
