3.42 vs. 3.73 gear poll!
Is there a big performance difference between the 3.42's and 3.73 gears. This is a daily driver, which has 2.73's now so what gear would you go with?

I have 2.73's in right now. Decided to get 3.73's because of the 3800 converter I have.
I bet its one of differences where if you had 1 or the other you would be happy.
I rode in a 3.73 car with a Vig3600 and it sealed the deal on my 2.73 drivin self. Never ridden in an A4 3.42 car.

I put headers and 3.42's in at the same time. Even untuned, my gas mileage has increased by 1 mpg and performance is much better. I can't wait to get her tuned. My mpg's gonna go up even higher. There's no reason to keep 2.73's. 3.42's are the best all around gear for the f-body IMO.

Just change the rear in my son's car to 3.42's from 2.73. Made a big difference and still cruises nice on the highway. One thing for sure is with the new gears you will need to look at fixing the traction problem. From a standing start the car just incinerates the tires.

auto 3.42's
6sp 3.73's
This makes more sense to me, I have 3.42's in my A4 with a vig 3200 and like em. Bought it that way, but if I'd were to do it it would be 3.73's, why not? Who buys a vehicle for economy now a days, lol. I will see once I cam my car If I want to change to 3.73's. All out performance, go 3.73's if worried about economy, etc go 3.42's and enjoy either way. You'll love the new found power, actually 'feeling' of power b/c you actually lose some to the ground.

I voted 3.73's.. I love them. I had 2.73's previously. I only gained .1 but 2 mph by changing form 2.73's to 3.73's but I already had a Vig 3600 stall. the biggest think I noticed with the 3.73 gear is the launch. It hit hard and had to get some LCAs, LCA brackets and PHR to get the car to hook. Stock stall you will see a larger gain in ET and MPH with a gear change.
DadsZ28... I don't know about 3.23- 3.73 but I doubt it will be a huge gain especially since you already have a stall but it will for sure help a little.

i thought it was:
A4-3.73's
M6-4.10's
go with 3.73's, good top end gear
I went from 3.23's to 3.73's. Never took it to the track rite away to see if i got any gains but i would pull harder on rolls..

I had the 3.42 they were good but next time I would just get the 3.73
But 2.73 gears are good for 2 things... mpg if you commute and keeping the RPMs low
I drive 50 miles a day to work and its all freeway it does suck when I went back to the 2.73 if you have the 2.73 gears doing about 70 mph put your car into D and watch your rpms go up thats pretty much what it would be like with the 3.73.....
BUT if I didn't have to commute 50 miles each day I would Definetly put 3.73 back in don't go 3.42 if you gone that far just do 3.73.. my .02
