stock Rear end with new gears
I have a 1998 z28 with 2.73 gears. I want some 3.42 gears. Its a daily driver but with the exception of going to the race track once in awhile to run the car. Will I blow the rear end out of the car? Should i get a whole new rear end?

If you don't have any other mods, you should be able to get away with having the stock rear end for awhile since you are an A4. However, if you plan on ever getting a 12 bolt, you are wasting your money with new gears.
I'm sure you'll see a big difference with 3.42's though.

I don't plan on putting any money into my 10 bolt but I do have 3.23 gears which are a little better than the 2.73's.
If you plan on doing more mods in the future I would save the money for other mods or an after market rear end.
You won't have to worry about breaking the 10 bolt with your current mods and street tires.

Don't waste your money on gears if you plan on racing. I put 3.90's in my 10 bolt. Stupid because I knew I wanted a 9" eventually. Luckily I didn't put hardly any miles on the rebuild and was able to sell my 10 bolt for the cost of the gear swap, $450. just got my 9" in this week and I love it.

You can probably find a stock 6 speed car's rearend cheaper than you'll be able to do gears(100 used/179.99 new), rebuild kit, and occassional little things, plus labor(atleast 250).
