Do cd cleaners work? Monsoon HU

Hey guys, my hu skips some cd's sometimes, not all of them. I was wondering if a cd cleaner from walmart would do the job? I know that I need a hu, but I can't afford it right now. Anybody tried them before? Thanks

I never had any luck with them but something called a spin doctor helps repair the scratches on the cd pretty well.
