Default Cam and heads... need help

Alright so got pacesetter long tubes, borla exhaust, and slp intake. Thinking the next thing will be cam and heads... but the options are confusing. Basically... where is the best place to look for the package, and what is the best setup for my 2001 camaro ss. I know it's a sort of broad question... but just wondering what a good setup is without spending a ton of cash... figured you guys would know... thanks guys. And oh yeah... how much horse does a head and cam package usually add?

Check into texas-speed packages they have a number to choose from. There really is no best just whatever fits you best. Porbably around 75-85Hp from heads and cam. Maybe a little more or less depending on what you go with.

I have a 2002 SS convertible. It's heavy. Craig @ ET Performance is a great help. I looked at all the big names as well as used them before the LS explosion. Craig told me to use my heads, (original), and they did a stage 2 cnc port job and installed 2.05" int-1.570" exh. Patriot gold springs with titanium retainers. The int flows 316 and the exh 241. My old school thought was, "are you for real!!?". I've had small blocks in the past turn 9500 rpm with similar flow #'s. I wanted to drive this on the street. And what about response? All I can say is BOOOOM!!!! In the old days we got maybe 40-60HP with a head and cam pkg. These LS motors love to breathe!! We made in excess of 100 + HP. Right off the trailer we ran a 7.84 @ 98mph. Thats with a 4100lb leviathon, w/driver at 264lbs. This was at 88 degrees 100% humidity, and air density at 92. The week before we ran 8.20 @ 95mph, 68 deg. 37% hum. and AD at 98. Unfortunately, this was the last race of the year, northern Michigan. We had put in a quicky tune because we sent our HP Tuner to get updated to the pro system to read the wideband and go to speed density. This is with a stock bottom end with 40,000 miles. ET's heads .030" qwench squish, Comp Cams 595-598 lift, 232-234 dur @ .050"-112LC. 7.450" Comp hardened pushrods, Chevy Racing 8000rpm hyd roller lifters, stock rockers, 90mm TB, smooth bellows, oil pump, billet chain and gears all from SLP, their air lid came stock. I also am using Nology Hot Wires and their Silver Core plugs with NX EFI 300HP wet kit, not with earlier times. With 150HP ran 7.0's @ 101.89. The exhaust is now holding us back. This is Dynatech 1 3/4' x 3'' with their mini-cats and y-pipe, stainless, to the original SLP stainless exhaust exiting through the center. The headers work fine, but the rest of the system is restrictive and heavy. I have a TCI SFI flywheel, and SLP SFI balancer. Pretty simple. I would love to see this same "blueprint" in a much lighter car. If the 100lb-per-10th rule is in effect, this would be a very deep 10 second car with the juice and very deep 11 sec w/o. Hope you get the gist of this convo. The price for these heads to be done was around $1600.00 to the door. It was done fairly quick and they were everything Craig said. ET Performance in the back of every GM High Tech, "the bible". Hope you post results in the spring.
