Default Help with picking motor for my 79 Camaro

Ok so I've come to you guys/gals with the big question- What motor to drop in? This is my 1979 Camaro project turning DD. I've been away from V8's for about 10+ years. I've been tooling in air cooled VW engines/performance not 50 hp clunkers. Anyhow I've been looking for an engine for almost 3 weeks now. I've been looking at carb'd setups, but like the idea of fuel injection.
I also have a Turbo 350 trans I picked up for this car, so I need to know what newer motors are gonna work with it?

Now keep in mind I'm am on a tight budget.
Heres some motors I'm looking at...
And I'd like to be making about 290-340 on the street with some mods.

Also will I have any issues hooking up the power steering to these newer motors?

2004 GMC Yukon XL
5.3L L59 Engine
3,191 Original Miles---But is this a cable throtle body motor?

6.0 vortech

LT1's 5.7's ect

Anything to stay away from motors/mounts ect

Thanks for any help and heres some crappy pics... Will be repainting after winter to GM Silver.

I thought about 454's , my front end is low enough now with the SBC...The BBC would add some weight right? How about the weight in the 6.0's?

Here's what has my attn now...

6.0L Engine Changeover from a 1999 Silverado 2500 (GM engine option code LQ4)

What would it take to get this in my ride? Problems with this motor?

Good choice? 325hp stock?

If your on a tight budget go with a carb. Unless you can find a donor car with FI. Nastyz28.com is probably the best 2nd Gen. site, I was a very helpful resource when I had my '79.

Just found a 2000 LS1 motor 30k, no harness or trans. I dont mind paying the money for the harness, but will an LS1 hook up to a short tail turbo 350?

Anyone here from MD?

Quick and easy: 406 with long rods, 5.7" or 6.0". With mild cam has massive torque and is inexpensive. light weight with aluminum heads for a little more. It doesn't need a big converter, 2000-2400. 3.73 or 3.42 gears. 12 second car and drive anywhere. Bolts to 350 trans. At our shop we just swapped a 6.0 and 4L60E into an early vehicle. Customer bought motor and trans for 1900.00. It was out of a Denali. We swapped the output shaft and put on a 2wd tail housing. The project was not very budget minded when small problems and unforseens were taken care of. Do what you can do now and have fun. Plus, if the car is done now and you have an emergency, it can be sold quicker and for better cash because it drives and isn't in project form.
