Just Finishing off AC hoses - Compressor Question
Hi Guys
We're just finishing off our swap of an LS1 & T56 into a 1986 BMW E30 (325). We're using fittings and hose from www.DocsBlocks.com (best prices by far!!). We added a machined compressor block from Docs to the back of the compressor for -8 output and -10 suction lines. The ports in the compressor appear to be the same size, so which one is the output for the line to the condenser?? -- the port nearest to the CL of the compressor, or the port out at the edge??
See our swap at:

Almost done!!

If you look at the picture of your thread,(4th picture).. the larger hose of the LS1 original hoses and manifold is the low pressure side that leads into the front condensor. The smaller hose is the High side pressure hose. Take a lookl at the original manifold.
Hope that helps.

Steve - can you share what a/c compressor you used in your E30 LS1 swap?
We're looking at several LS1 a/c compressor options for both E36 LS1 and a 911 LS2 swaps. Just gathering ideas. There's several options for LS1 a/c compressors, and some look slimmer than others.
Being based in Texas a lot of our local swap customers want to keep a/c. We left room on the engine placement for the OEM F-body unit, but its still tiiiight with that compressor. Might use one of the LS1 truck compressors instead, and/or a custom bracket and mounting location.
Thanks,

We are using the stock Fbody compressor: no need to change the FEAD serpentine belts, etc. We used Docs Blocks #A0336 block (http://www.docsblocks.com/compressor_blocks.asp) on the back end of the compressor. Use Docs beadlock fittings & hose. Check out the videos on their website re: aluminum brazing. Just like sweat-soldering, but easier (if a lot hotter). We will post pics of the lines we made up in the next few days here & on our thread on Bimmerforums.com
The E30 is a hair over 27" wide across the frame rails. We have about 1/2" clearance to the compressor, the elec fitting just rubs the RH rail; we'll just apply a little bumping locally there for some clearance. The hoses look better than factory!
