What to replace blown Monsoon subs with?
Just blew out my driver side sail panel sub (and I'm pissed), looking to replace with something asap. I'm not a car audio nut to say the least, I'm just looking for something that will fit without cutting up the panels and preferrably without cutting the factory harness. Saw the FAQ, but it's 4 years old and the Rockford Fosgate subs it refers to are no longer available. Anyone priced a set of factory replacement subs? Are the even being made anymore? What would be my next best bet? I'm not really interested in a huge upgrade, I just want something at least as good as the factory ones.

The cheapest and easiest way to replace a single sail panel sub is to buy an OEM replacement. There aren't many aftermarket speakers that are direct replacements for the dual voice coil subs in Firebirds - the eD EU-700 may be the only one and they are $65 each. The GM speaker part number is 9365799 and it retails for $70 (about half that online) and you only have to buy one instead of a pair.
I'm sure the same thing applies to Camaros although it is easier to find the single voice coil subs from the aftermarket. I don't have a confirmed part number but I'm sure a single OEM speaker is cheaper than any pair of decent aftermarket replacements.

Well hey, if the OEM's are that cheap and still available, I'll just stick with those. Actually probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a couple extras, cuz if GM does to the Monsoon service parts what it did to the C4 Bose service parts, none of this stuff is going to be available anywhere in coming years. I've got a huge list of stuff I need to pick up next time I'm at the dealer (slave cylinder, 1 ram air decal, clutch pedal pad, oil filter, etc.), so I'll just add that to the list. Thanks WhiteBird!!

Okay, found this on the Elemental Designs website http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=33 . Apparently they have two versions, one of which is backordered. Do I need the Dual 2 or Dual 4 voice coil version?
