Anyone running an MTI R1 cam on a 382 stroker?
I have a Lunati 237/242 595/595 114 LSA cam and I'm really not satisfied with its overall performance. I'm still having problems getting my idle to stop surging and this cam has very little low end power. I want a choppy idle and power I can use on the street. I don't really go to the track and mainly play around on the street on weekends. For my needs will the R1 cam be better suited for me? How does it idle? What would be the difference over my cam? The R1 that I'm interested in is the revised version that is 232/236 57?/578 112 LSA. Does anyone have a suggestion of a better cam for my needs?

Can you tell me what is you rwhp?
Sorry I had to ask because I have a 382 Lunati stroker too! I am running MTI X1 cam 230/227. It idles very good. Not that big of a cam but it drives like a stock, but when you get on it, it pulls like a VERY HARD! You can see my dyno #s and mods in my sig!

My rwhp is 440. I was hoping for more hp but I need to get my heads upgraded to stage II. I have MTI's old stage I heads which I bought back in 98 or 99.

I have the revised version. I will trade you straight up of you like? Mine idles fairly well and made 430 rwhp at 5700 rpm and 423 rwtq with some less than stellar heads and choked exhaust/mufflers. Great low end grunt. Less than 1000 miles on it.

I had two different cams in my previous 382ci setup.
T1 (221/221)
T2 (232/232)
The T1 was the ultimate sleeper engine. 455 rwhp 445 ft-lbs with the stock rearend.
The T2 loped noticeably more, and made the same dyno numbers, but with the 12-bolt and 4.10s installed. Probably worth 10 rwhp over the T1
Either of those cams are decent for daily-drivers. The T1 was more fun just because it was so damn sneaky though. The car had NO lope with my quiet SLP dual-dual catback.
11.19 ET with the T1
11.08 ET with the T2
