...not absolutely necessary but highly recommended....besides, they are not that costly...
...a better spring choice would be the comp cams 918s ...very popular for cam swaps...
have you considered a bigger stick....the gm hot cam is nice and gives more power than a stock zo6 cam...the kit comes with new springs...

I don't think the hotcam is emissions friendly in CA. I would think I would need the new springs to take the extra useful RPM the LS6 cam offers. Correct me if I'm off on any of those.
