You have to have an estimate of the power you make, know the hight of your tire and trans type, from there you can factor what will give you better performance, street strip performance or all out drag race performance.
If you have a M6 people usually go with 3.73 or 4.10. I prefer the 4.10 in a M6.
In an auto 3.73 is the most popular gear.
