Crank flange to bellhousing flange relationship of Gen III/IV
I'm gathering information for building a GIII/IV powered Fiero...
On a traditional SBC, the crank flange protrudes from the bellhousing mounting surface by ~11/16".
On a FWD GM, the crank flange is flush with the bellhousing mounting surface.
My understanding is that the Gen III/IV engines are somewhere in between. I've read about crank flange spacers .400 thick, but haven't in my casual observation seen the dimension itself.
What is this dimension for the Gen III/IV architecture?

I didn't receive email notification from this thread... hmm...
I could of course take a depth mic or calipers or whatev and measure the dimension on a SBC, then subract the dimension of an adapter that I've never measured and of which I've never seen a drawing...
I was just hoping that someone had measured the dimension himself, or knew it right off...
I doubt it's exactly .288, for instance, because it's a metric engine and .288 doesn't equal a convenient number of millimeters.

you might also want to check out fiero.nl...... there are a few lsx fiero's on there. are you thinking a 5.7 or 5.3? the 5.3 is allot easier if you use a the trans that comes with the engine

On a related note, what's the difference in the engine mounting patterns between the G3/4 and the G1/2? I googled briefly and found pictures of adapter plates for G3/4 swaps into older bodies, but didn't get a really good idea of what the differences were. Four bolt pattern on the G3/4? Further forward on the engine than the G1/2 three bolt pattern? Anyone have a pic of the adapter plates in place? Thanks.

Do the two patterns share any bolt holes? How far back are the new mounts... just a swag on the center of the old pattern to the center of the new pattern?

right now it's a design/system architecting exercise. I'm trying to get a good idea of what's different between the two before I buy hardware.
