Default LT1 good and bads???what to know.

Ok so I am looking at buying a LT1 car for a DD. are they releible? ok on gas doesnt have to be great? are they easy to mod? what are the goods and the bads of the LT1 style cars? what are the years to stay away from? also are they ok on insurence?

i dont remember which forum i read but there are lt1's with over 300,000 miles on them. my sons 94 has 130,00 mi with no major probs.go to lt1 the section and ask this questions and im sure you will find alot of owners with high milage daily drivers.

the LT1s are awesome... people will tell you they aren't and that the optispark is a bad idea... but ive got 2 LT1 caprice's with 240,000 and one with 190,000 between all of them 2 starters, 2 waterpumps, 1 fuel pump, and one optispark.

good running engine.

i was into lt1s for years until finally getting a ls1 but i can tell you lt1s last long. if you do maintance you will have a car that you cant kill

They have there little quirks, but that is something to be expected from a motor that is at the least 11 years old now. I have seen just under 25 mpg on the highway cruising at about 80 in 6th and average about 18.5 with in city.
