Anyone looking for a 9 inch? I bought a 3rd gen with one under it and was going to put it under my s10 but its 8 inches to wide. Im sure it isnt as wide as a 4th gen but it will hold 15 inch wheels and wont need so much back spacing in the wheels. It has moser axles and i think its a direct moser bolt in unit. Everywhere i look they are listed for 82-02 f bodies and run about $2500 with out disc brakes. This one is complete from disc to disc and i wont $1500 for it.

this will be 2" narrowed over stock 4th gear rear so u can run a deeper dish wheels on rear! You would need a 15x10 with 5.5" BS.

As far as the price it all depends on what the center section is and what spline axles. I paid $2000 shipped for top of the line parts. 35 spline CM spool, 4.30 gears, 35 spline moser axles, strange center with billet pinon support. If i would of got with stock center section it would of been $1600 shipped new! Post a pic of it

well i put STS kit on a car back when they first came out with mail order tune and #7 piston cracked! He did not have a WB just went out an raced it! BOOM. I hope that is not the case!

what i do,
1. unplug coils,
2. pull fuel pump realay
3. pull spark plug
4. Screw in tool
5. turn motor over
6. write it down
7. Repeat to all cylinders

Do u not have any stock 317s? I would just run those over 241s if u have them. Just mill the 317s down some. I fu wanna make some real power with stock heads i know where some new l92 heads are for $500.

BadAssBowties
02-17-2011, 02:07 AM
Steve, Pm me your number. What do you think would need to be milled off of them? I ordered a MS3 and dont want any ptv issues what so ever.

My lq4 is a iron headed motor but I can get a set of 317's for $100. I want a little more compression and thats why im looking into a set of stock 241's or 243's.

BTW My intake, carb, and 6010 have already been ordered so im sticking with whats on its way. L92's would be nice but i dont think ill need them.

01ssreda4
02-17-2011, 02:13 AM
Being that they had a valve job means the valves are slightly recessed in the head giving more ptv clearance. They likely wont need to be milled at all. The deck surface is slick, and was only run for about 1500 miles after the mill before they got pulled. They had an acid bath at the same time.

Are you talking about just a factory rebuilt of a forged shortblock build?

If it's the latter, I'd send it to HKE or LME. I wouldn't let someone garage build a motor that was going to take some abuse.

most people run spacers on front so u dont have to grind! Ive never grinded on front! Are they welds? If so ive always ran spacers on the front.
FRONT:

No matter what width or offset you get, the Welds will need a 5/16” spacer. Without the spacer, the front wheels will hit in two places:

http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/mrg-2371.jpg

1. The spokes of the center disc will hit the spring clips that hold the brake pads in the calipers. It may appear you have some clearance, if your pads are worn, but with any decent amount of pad material, the spring clips will hit the center disc of the wheels.

2. The point where the center disc of the wheel “rolls over” to form the rim will rub on the big horizontal bar on the steering knuckle. This bar is used to support the caliper and the brake pads. While it may appear you can grind the pointy end of the big horizontal bar down, you have to consider how much life is left on your brake pads. New brake pads will move the caliper/pad out near the end of the horizontal bar.

NHRA rules require that if you use a spacer, the spacer must be hub-centric or lug-centric. That means the spacer must fit tight to either the studs or the hub, so that it is held perfectly centered, and can not move. This technically rules out the cheap spacers you can buy in your local auto parts store, that typically have five long slotted holes, so that they will fit a wide variety of bolt circle dimensions, not just the 4.75" bolt circle of the F-Body.

The use of a 5/16” spacer will move the center disc of the wheel outwards, away from the interference points. But now you will not have enough of the “shank” style Weld wheel lugs engaging the wheel studs. Under NHRA tech, the hex portion of the lug must engage the threads of the stud by at least 12mm. The stud does not have to come past the end of the lug opening, it just needs to have at least 12mm (for 12mm studs, ” for ” studs) thread engagement in the hex portion of the lug.

There are several sources for longer 12mm studs, with the correct 0.509” knurl. Lingenfelter, GM Performance Parts and ARP make them.

Note that once you install the longer wheel studs, the use of stock wheel lugs for street wheels will become a problem, since the studs will be way too long for closed end lugs. You will need to figure a way to swap your stock street wheels back on.

I ran Weld Pro Stars on my DD Z28 for several years with no spacers. You can make them clear if you keep working at it. I dusted the calipers with black paint, put the wheel up there and spin it around, then check my paint for marks only grinding where the wheel rubbed the paint. It took forever to get it done but if you do it this way you'll take a lot less off the calipers. I had front and rears with no spacers. Just an FYI for you though, we also had a same size pair of superlites and they would not clear

Track wasn't real good because they removed ALL of the rubber (which they needed to anyway). Track seemed to hook better later in the day though. More cars that show up, the more rubber gets put down, the better the track will be. Hopefully some guys with Drag Radials and slicks will show up.

Those damn street tires really tear the track up.

I'll hopefully be there in my dragster to lay down some good rubber :D

Street tires will peel the rubber off the track. I'm sure you've seen it before out there, anytime it has a "peeling" look to it, it's normally because of people spinning on street tires.

If you look at SICLSX's first picture of the dragster you can see what I'm talking about. It's right in front of the front wheels to the left.

Well i have the ms3 and dont plan to go over 6,200. When i was putting my last lq4 together i had the eep blower cam and patriot dual gold springs. I never put it all together though lol. At that time i wanted to keep FI but didnt have anyone to help wire it and couldnt afford a new swap harness. This time i ordered a carb, intake, and msd 6010. Now i wont have to worry about going to get a $500 tune. I know a good bit of people that just throw the springs on the heads with no shims and dont have any problem but id like to do it right and be done with it.

On the locks, Ive read in several places where people are using there stock locks on the prc springs. If thats the case i guess ill just order a new set from the stealership.

Bring the heads over one day if you want. I bought a valve spring height checker tool you can use to find your exact installed height. Then with a little simple math you can figure out how much you need to shim. I forget what I shimmed mine with, I think about .045. That got me .060 away from coilbind at max lift. This will give you really good valve control in the upper rpms. You dont want the valves bouncing off the seats. That will tear some shit up

When Ive installed vs they come with valve seats, seals, springs, retaiers, and locks. Unless they changed it. I like patriot dual gold springs better. They have bigger locks.

Yep, I think it depends on what you order. If you order a spring kit, it will all come in. But, you can also just order the springs. That may be what happened here or someone gave him the wrong order.

Was like a 2.4. Dont worry bout it Todd. I mean I was spinning quite a ways. If I waxed my old car from a dig its doing pretty good

Well that's good to hear. Now get those gears changed out, get some sticky tires, and let's see what that car will do.

Im about to order a set of ls7 lifters and a ls2 timing chain from tsp. I want to put a new pump in it while im in there. Should i just buy the ls6 pump or the millings high pressure pump?

Im running the Melling 10295, its a high pressure stock volume pump. Its a nice piece. I dont particularly care for the high volume simply bc at high rpm you can have drainback issues. You dont want to suck your pan dry on the back-end of the track.

Are you running a ls2 chain?

01ssreda4
02-21-2011, 11:50 AM
Yeah, Im running the chain and gears. Hell I think I still have my old LS2 chain. I only ran it about 5k. I swapped it for a new one with the new engine. I'd give it to you for a 12 pack.....And yeah, the 10295 makes decent pressure

Were you running stock gears on the old motor with the ls2 chain?

01ssreda4
02-21-2011, 12:05 PM
Nope, I bought the set. Ran it for 5k. Went to put it together on my new engine and it had a little more slack then i wanted. I figured it had stretched. So I ordered up a new chain only. Mounted it and it had the same slack as the 5k one. So I ran the new one. 5k chain is collecting dust somewhere :jest:

(seriously its in a plastic bag somewhere)

You came a long way yesterday you started out running 14's to the 13.3! I ran 13.1 was my best and consistent 13.2's all day

Thanks! advice from everyone helped and doing about 20-22 runs down the strip helped a bit too:devil: didn't know you managed to get out of the 13.2's nice

You need to try some speed shifing. Never take your right foot off the floor i bet you get in 12s. :-) the track was getting better as the day went on with rubber being put down.

LOL!!! Gotta love it! While I was tuning a customers car, my son took my floor jack and put it under the front of his '55 Chevy pedal car, lifted it up, and pretended to be working on it. He is almost four as well. My Dad has a '55 Chevy with a 454 in it, so needless to say....he thoroughly enjoyed the pictures.

Yea I had 2 13.1 runs about 10 13.2 and 3 13.3 and about 4 or 5 that I had to get out of the throttle after the 1-2 shift broke loose

AndyIsLost
02-21-2011, 07:31 PM
What I found out was that if I slammed 2nd I couldn't go into third very quickly...as if I was on the stock master cylinder, I'd have to wait a 1-2 seconds to get into third, but if I quickly put it into second but not slam it I can get into third quicker. Can't wait till next time and I'll try speed shifting (i thought never letting foot off floor was power shifting?)

Oh OK, I saw a decent looking female driving it she had her daughter with her @ auto zone getting air fresheners. I haven't talked to Jamie but one time and a guy I worked with on the rig said it was slow but I haven't work on that rig in 14 months.

Power shifting only picks up ET with rookie drivers;) I always run faster shifting the regular old way. It is good for killing stock pushrods or popping pistons if you have good pushrods when you miss 3rd. And I don't care how good you are, sooner or later you will miss 3rd:)

This weekend at TRRP everyone with slicks or drag radials gets to TnT for $10. They are trying to get some rubber on the track
