clear bird plate cover. how does it fit?

clear bird plate cover. how does it fit? i need a plate cover for the front of the TA. how do the clear ones from afterthoughtsauto fit? like stock? i was possibly going to paint it black because the solid GM ones are selling for alot more used.
i also was thinking about trying to fade the edges so you could still see the numbers on the plate, and it would fade to painted edges.
this brings up 2 problems though, i wouldnt really be able to prime it because of the clear area, also the numbers will probably not get much light and might not show up good.
you guys think this is a good or bad idea?
