Default 3.90 in A4

Why does everyone say you shouldn't go with any higher gear than 3.73 in an A4? Just because of bad gas mileage, or rear end will break? I saw Motive offers a 3.90 ring and pinion for 7.5" 10 bolt. Will they be a bad choice?

At some point you are going to be hitting or exceeding red-line on the tach going through the traps at the strip with a numerically higher gear. This is not desirable and what most refer to as having too much gear. Oh and the mileage goes to hell too.

it really depends what you'll be doing with the car, for the street thats too much gear bt for the strip thats not a bad choice but you could go bigger. If its both, id stick with a 3:73, just my .02
