Default Valvetrain swap question!!!

I was reading the walk through on ls1howto and it said when you replace valvesprings you can put each piston at top dead center.. no prob. Well when i swap the valve seal and put the new one on it says use a little oil and tap the new seal on with a hammer and a 12mm deepwell socket. Well if i use TDC method and the valve is sitting on the piston while im tapping w/ a hammer would that cause any damage to the piston or valve? I know you dont beat the hell out of it but i was curious if a little tapping could cause any damage. TIA

No because the valve seal seats on the black valve guide. With the deep 10mm or 12mm socket, you dont contact the valve at all. You just seat the seal onto the guide. They dont take much to seat them, a few light taps. The best way I can think to describe it, is when it seats, the tone of the tapping will change noticably.
