what to do with $5,000.00
well i have quit the dilema on my hands... Ive got some money put aside and now i dont know how to spend it! my car has 166k but makes good power and most of the miles are commuting so i was gonna buy a forged ls1 shortblock and swap that out, and over the summer buy a maggy. on the other hand, the car needs new shocks and springs, i want a ss hood, i need to get my ss spoiler painted, it could use new brakes, and have the trans rebuilt, and maybe a new rear that would hold the power later. not to mention new motor and trans mounts and a clutch. (see where im going with this). SO... do I, get the new motor and drive the car conservatively until i can beef up the support, or do i do pretty much everything else but the motor.
I havent priced everything out yet, but im pretty sure i could get my ss hood and spoiler painted, decent shocks and springs, motor and trans mounts, a new clutch installed, and some swaybars, and the trans rebuilt, and upgrade the brakes and the car would look sick.
anyone got some other advice...

whatever you decide to do, PM me with what you want to do I have a friend who has MAJOR hookups with the parts your asking for and by major hook ups I mean your 5k could be 10k without the hook up.

With that many miles I would use it to freshen everything up and wait on the motor. Do your suspension, clutch, brakes, and rear. Then if there is any left over to spend use it to put toward a motor or other items you need.

i would do the things necessary to get your car running properly, if you go with a mag you are going to need syour trans built and you will need new brakes, go with what you need first, then start modding

if i had to do it over i would do everything to the car except the motor first. with my new motor i went through 3 tranni rebuilds before i got a new race tranni. i also changed my gear set 4 times from braking them before i got my 9".

A very important question that hasn't been asked is what do you plan on doing with the car? I myself would spend it on the driveline and whatever you do plan on doing it right the first time.

I have 160k miles too and mine is a daily driver. If I had 5k, I'd definitely mod to strengthen the durability and reliability of the car (stronger rear end, rebuilt transmission etc.)

First off you should give me the $5,000. I'll show you how to spend it! J/k
I second what some of the others have said. Do upgrades that will make the car last and more durable. I know it sucks but I'd shy away from engine performance and finish up your suspension. Get some SFCs, STB, Torque Arm, Built Tranny, better clutch, 9 inch...pick IF you spend your money right you could probably do most of those mods.
I see you're in the Bay, where are you from? I live in the Bay too, Pleasanton. Good luck with your mods! I wish I had $5K to mess with.

I would spent it on the supporting mods first and then add power later. So do the suspension, rear end, tranny and brakes first.
Its nice to see a few bay area guys in here.
