Default How do you put this aluminum crank plug in and which side?

Uhhh dont know what happened that there is nothing posted in here but I"ll retype it.

There is a small aluminum plug that goes in the center of the LS1 crank. To me it looks like it goes in from the same side as the pilot bearing where it resides behind in the crank. I'm 99% sure the bubbled side goes towards the trans. Reason i say that is cause it had a dent on that side most likely being how it was knocked out into the pan. I went to put it back in and dont know how far to put it in and what i should use to put it in and how not to just hit the thing right back into the oil pan again!!!!!!!! Please someone find out about this thing so i can start putting my car back together tomorrow nite and saturday so I can go the track and smoke Fireball!!!!!!

I answered your PM, but will post here.

It drives in just like a freeze plug, just over an inch inside the crank. The 'bubble' parts points to the center of the motor, the cup part is what you see when looking from the rear of the motor.

I used a socket of similar diameter to put mine in place. No problems.
