*Sneak Peek* TTP's New 4130 Subframe Connectors We wanted to create a new lightweight subframe connector for the f-body cars. We went for 1.625 x .083 4130 chromemoly round tubing and 3/16" oil hardened steel plates at the ends. This creates a very rigid mounting surface with the lightweight 4130 tubing. This is our first prototype set being tacked in to a customer's car. Oh and just so anyone asks that is our new Candy Apple Red powder coat.

Ahhh weight! I know I was stupid and put our prototype in without weighing it. We just got the oil hardened plate back in stock we'll have some sets rolling tomorrow or Monday so I'll get weight.
I did not double brace the subframes because we investigated the areas and found it was not necessary. I want the strongest piece obviously, I did not find the double brace to be worth it. With the type of material we used, the amount of area that is welded, we decided to forgo the double brace.

Did you weld the "oil hardened steel plate" brackets to the 4130 tubes after the plate was hardened? How hard did you make the plates? I'm assuming the plate is a medium carbon (.30-.40% C) or it wouldn't direct harden. Is it 4130?
I don't understand how the welding didn't adversely effect the heat treatment or the joint between the parts. Perhaps I don't uderstand just what you did, and why.
