Default Gen 5 454 Questions...

I'm 90% sure I'm dropping a 454 into my '69. I already have one that has a knock but is complete, I have a few questions.

-I have a 3 core, 21" radiator that's stock for '69 SBC's and is basically brand new. Do you think I could get by (for this summer) on Water Wetter and electric fan(s)? It would see at most 25 mile trips with cool down time. Just tight on cash.

-Do you think I can make the pulleys work (off the Gen 5/my '69 long water pump SBC pulleys)?

In terms of performance. It'll likely keep the peanut heads for now, get some ~10:1 KB pistons/put in a ~3200 stall converter/intake blah blah.

I was thinking about this cam...

.570 lift, 107 LSA with a listed operating range of 2500-6100. I figure I might as well get one that starts working well when it's up on the converter. Do you think I'll be fine retaining the stock valvetrain components (assuming they're alright?), mostly concerned about the lifters. This isn't going to see a ton of miles or track time, I have a racecar for that I just want a street car that'll bake the tires from a roll. 'Streetable' is a very loose term for me, I'm used to .700+ lift 5500 stall cars, just tired of the turd 350 I have in there.

Don't have a ton of experience with street big blocks so help is very appreciated.

Why not get a cam kit that comes with lifters?

Not the bottom pulley or accessory alignment.
The water pump pulley will bolt up but thats it, it won't line up to anything.

Water wetter is about as useful as urine.
21" radiator? is that high or wide?
21" high might work if it's wide enough.
21" wide no way.
My GenV big block uses a 17 high by 34 wide radiator.

I couldn't find a kit that comes with the lifters, they're ~$300 by themselves which kills my funds.

It's actually a 23" core, thanks for the pulley info. Water Wetter has actually worked for us on a stick street car and a racecar. I'll probably just be dishing out the cash to buy a new radiator. Thanks for the info.

Same here with my 468 but I have a foctory style 4 core that came out of a truck, that and the two fans with a belt driver fan (ditching it) and a 160 thermo I don't have to worry about ti getting hot to much.

On a budget pull a big radiator (4 core or whatever) out of a big chevy truck in a junk yard. Works for me.
