Default How much is the stock crank good for?

At what point should I look into going with a forged crank? It will be in a splayed 4 bolt block if that matters.

If you are doing Forced Induction or Nitrous, forged is the only way to go on a rebuild. N/A, I would say it is good to 375-400 RWHP with decent longevity.

I've heard up to 550 or so too the wheels, if machine properly. If you knife edge it and make sure everything it properly balanced you should be good unless you want to run like 14.7 PSI or something crazy like that. That's what i've heard, I had a friend who had a balanced & and knife edged Lt4 crank making 575 to the wheels in his setup.

I've seen high hp numbers on what a stock crank will handle. I seen a thread of a car with a stock crank hitting it with a 300 shot and making 800+ ft. lbs. of tq. It was rebuilt with forged pistons. Now I don't know how long it lasted but, it was accomplished. I would say, start adding internals after about 400-450. There are a few cars on here making over 430whp w/ completely stock bottom ends. If you are already going to splay cap it and all, go ahead a build what you want. Do it right the first time even though it will take more funds and more time you'll only have to do it once. I guess I will just build the bottom end with all forged and wait to put a AI heads/cam on it. What brands for internals should I look at? Anything I should stay away from? I am wanting to hit low 11's on engine with heads/cam and spray it with a 250 shot after that.

The stock shortblock seems reliable to over 400rwhp and I would call the crank the strongest of the rotating assembly pieces, so VERY few of us have to be concerned about overpowering that particular piece.

Look on AI's site at the rotating assemblies. The Compstar Speedpack is a hard value to beat. Compstar is a sponsor here too so the link is to the right of your screen.
