Default Tranny Problems after gear install

I recently had Motive 3.73 gears install on my 1999 Z28/A4. I never had any tranny problems B4 this. Now, sometimes when i open to WOT, it shifts into 2nd, then seems to drop out of gear and bangs off the rev limiter. Is it possible that the shop adjusted the line pressure too high?

did they retune your PCM for the gears. I believe it needs to be done so your speedo is correct and your tranny knows when to shift

They said they tuned it for the gear change. Also, it shifts fine in normal driving. Only when I go WOT from low speeds does it do this. From around 50 mph in drive for instance, it shifts down to second gear, pulls hard and catches thirds at 75 or 80 mph! Only having problems down low.

Sounds like a tuning issue to me . I would get someone to look at it .

I had the same proble. Took it back to tuner he lowered shift point 200 rpms and fixed it. What RPM is it shifting at? I believe mine was set to 6500 and my stock 4l60e didnt like that so we moved it to 6300 and it worked just fine till 5K miles laster when it went out

I am planning on taking somewhere else to have it looked at. At this point I don't think I trust this shop to do any further work on my car. This was what I was afraid of. Changing stuff, and it messing up the dependability of the car !

I think your issue is i tuning as I said but there is something to be said for this. Anytime you make any mod to a car it can affect other things and you need to be prepared to deal with them . Mods what ever they may be can change the relationship and how this work together or even make a weak area show that may have seemed fine before. Personally I myself when I was very young learned the hard way that its better to have the car you like to play with and the car you really need not be the same car. Thats why I guess since I was around 20 I have allways kept the performance car when I had one but also had the little beater for when something went wrong. Just a useless observation I know lol. But good luck with getting it all worked out.

where in texas are you? I installed the same gears in mine. The only problems I was having was hitting the governor too quick. Once I had Corey (Henderson Performance) recalibrate it, and set the shift points, and of course 255mph the governor its fine now. Only here and there do I hit the rev limiter from 2-3 at wot. Sounds like you just need someone else to work on it for you.
