I initially tried 4mm OD on my car. I then switched to 6mm OD tubing.
The small diam tubing should be fine, but if the diaphragm/chamber of the BOV has a slight leak, then that small loss of air, can be a big thing with such small diameter tubing, and signal strength can be lost.
I'll continue to use 6mm OD

If this is of big concern, the more expensive but more flexible option would be -4an fittings.

Sorry I did not get back to your PM Phil.
I would say a 1/4" minimal ID. I know of a couple cars running with that and not having an issue. I know that is What Jake @ Tial suggests as well.
