Default Edelbrock Stuff...

So I was looking at the summit catalog and noticed a bunch of edelbrock stuff. The thought occured to me that I can get edelbrock stuff at work (advance auto parts) at 20% off. So I did some part number crossing and noticed that a crap load of their stuff is in our system, at freakin great prices.

There isnt much info on this stuff here, so I would like everyone to comment on everything edelbrock. I am looking at their 90mm TBs, their heads, possibly their intakes, and definately their cams, specifically the 2216. And when I say good prices I mean to say that I can get an edelbrock TB for less than $250, and a cam for less than $240.

I am going to work to see if the two piece timing cover and other things have hit the system yet.

I think I might be an edelbrock customer soon, but I need everyones feedback!

I asked a question about some of the Edelbrock heads at one point, but was steered away from them. The people who I talked to hadn't tried them, but just from the looks of the product they were not impressed; but who knows, it may be good! My brother works at Advance so I could have gotten a good deal on all their mumbo jumbo too so I brought it up... I went with PRC heads and TSP cam though because if I'm going to do this H/C/I install, I'm going to do it right with proven equipment! (even if it means an extra few hundred bucks..)

In my opinion, I favor having more mods than paying double for top of the line stuff. I just cant see spending twice as much for maybe an average of 10% gain over the budget stuff, know what I mean. Im sure edelbrock has some decent options out there, and i fyou can get them for cheap, it could be the difference between having a few performance pieces instead of stock parts in the motor. This line of thinking isnt for everybody, and I can appreciate that. But having always been on a tight budget, im always looking for the biggest bang for the buck. This might be the ticket for you.

Finally, someone who speaks my language.

I called Edelbrock at work today and asked them all kinds of questions.

The Tech dude recommended the XT RPM heads. They are partially CNC'd, where the very expensive alternative that they developed with lingenfelter is fully CNC'd. The XT RPMs flow 286cfm at .600 and I can get a pair for about $1400 bucks with no shipping.

As for the intake manifolds, he said that they are mainly for retrofit applications... but some of you crazy high revers have put them in with sheet metal elbows. They make an elbow to fit a TB, but he said that he wouldnt recommend it for the street. We all know Victor Jr's like to spin to the moon, and thats what you could do with that setup.

The TB's look sweet, and are dirt cheap. You can get them powdercoated black for about $5 more. It will fit up to a fast manifold with no problems, but the OEM 90mm intakes lack enough material to bolt up. $240 sounds pretty freakin sweet to me.

The 2216 cam is the longest duration cam that they offer. He said that they acheived the best results by using the .540 lift. Check out how long the advertised duration is. All in all I dont think its bad for a $235 cam... Rollin' Thunder... we'll see!

@ .006 = 314/322
@.050 = 230/237
Lift at Cam = Intake: 0.318" Exhaust: 0.318"
Lift at Valve: =Intake: 0.540" Exhaust: 0.540"
Intake: 9° BTDC 41° ABDC
Exhaust: 52° BBDC 5° ATDC
Centerlines: Lobe Separation - 110° Intake Centerline - 106°

May the cam gurus take this info and begin chiming innnnnnn... NOW!

FYI, I cant justify dropping that kind of cash on those heads personally. I am going to go with some L92s on a short block one day because they are about half the price. But I would definately like to switch out cams and get 90/90 going.

If anyone is interested in any of these things at an Advance auto store just ask the manager if they would order it for 20% off. If they say no then go ahead call them stupid. I can't think of a single store that doesnt want sales numbers like that, even if they get a low gross.

No comments on the 90mm TBs or 2216 cam?

I've got a set of Edelbrock heads on my engine, although they came frow West Coast CH. CNC'd, with bigger valves, and extreme springs. Running 850 or so right now with no problems. I know of a set that made over 1000 without problems too. Out of the box they may not be the best, but with some work they perform.

To the OP. You could buy a set and have them worked on. You'd still come out way cheaper in the long run.

If the deals were a little better and you can get the stuff cheaper, then I would consider it, but there may be better options that would come in at the same price, or cheaper.

Hard to justify those heads against the ~1000 dollar stock-valves LS6 heads. Im not sure why they went with such a low lift cam, maybe for spring life? Im sure youll see power from it but but youll probably be able to get the same power from a more streetable ~228 or ~230, ~.600+ lift, 112 lsa cam. It depends how much the 100 dollar difference is worth to you.

Well, I'll tell you what NEW discovery that I made last night: We can get Lunati and COMP stuff as well. While the Comp stuff really isnt that cheap, even with my discount, the Lunati stuff is REALLY cheap. I probably shouldnt be posting prices like this, but Let me just say that the Retail price of a forged rotating assy is only $2970 for PN#EA035-408H... before taking 20% off! Lunati LS1 cams go for less than $325 RETAIL! WooHoo! $930 for a 90mm fast is a little high on the retail side... but when multiplied by 0.8 it sounds much better

Wait... you've got edelbrock stuff on your LS1 and your car doesnt make 4 Barrel sounds and lift up in the rear to expose a chrome diff cover and some glasspack mufflers? Sweet!

So maybe one day everyone else will look at edelbrock for headers or other things... since they too make stainless stepped headers, 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 with 3.5" collectors...

They do make nice headers but when the heads are $1400 for the set and flow 286 cfm @.600" I would rather go with the TSP stage 2.5 5.3s that flow 312 cfm @ .600" and cost $1199. I have talked to a guy who had the edelbrock Performer RPMS and he said it was a small gain over stock but not very noticable.

They do make great stuff though and thats a sweet price on a rotating assy, makes me want to go back to working at Autozone..........j/k

I dont agree,ESP has ran the out of the box 205CC's and made great power with them...IMO Its because no one buys the edel heads nor takes the time to try them with the right camshaft and intake combo's..

Now they have this XT 214CC head (I checked cost and they are more than 1400 a set) that I think would work very well on a 346 again with the right cam and boltons.

I think u listed the cam wrong too
The Edel. cam is actually 230-237 540-540 110

I am not knocking PRC but I have seen some flow numbers from their heads and they tend to be off quite a bit from what they advertise.I am not saying their stuff doesnt work because my buddy amde 460RW with a set of their 5.3's and a MS3..

I guess what I'm saying is there's just not enough good data to say yes or no to edelbrock...More shops should try there heads and see what kind of power they can get out of them w/the right addons to compliment them...

ESP did and they got good results from Chef's car

Why hasnt there been much attention given to the new throttle bodies? I am going to get one as soon as I get a 90mm Manifold... but that might be when I get a short block going on some L92s

I think they make the castings, but PRC does the CNC work. I dont think you can buy the terminators from edelbrock, just PRC, but I could be wrong.

That would sound about right. The port PRC does is pretty mean. The guy who did the original port, which PRC CNC's, has done heads for the fastest NA LSx car out there.

Bringing this back from the dead, anyone else have reviews on the tsp/Prc terminator heads? Just bought a FRC and they came with a set. Not sure if I am going to sell or use them.
