Default What 4L60E tranny for a-body swap?

Tried this in the tranny forum with no bites. My bro has a tranny out of a 97 sierra sitting in the corner. Will this work behind a LQ9? Is there a better tranny i should look for that came off a ls-series motor? 2wd truck tranny, camaro? I know the bellhousing pattern is the same, but i noticed the lq9 had the top hole used and skip one on the right side. Any help?!?

I think they are all the same, the only difference you need to worry about is if its a "pwm" tranny. i think thats what it is, p something. its just some electronic difference in the trans and you need to know what you need to get, pwm or non-pwm. hope that helps some, good luck.

If you get a 4l60e from a LSx motor (4.8,5.3,5.7,6.0) it will bolt right up. If you get it from an earlier motor you will need to use an adapter like GM used on the 4l80E`s.

I believe the only ones that are a direct bolt on for an LSx is the 98+ f-body trans, and 99+ 4.8,5.3, L truck (2wd) transmissions. Of course the GTO transmissions will also bolt on.

You can also use a 98 and up 4x4 trans out of a 4.8 5.3 6.0 truck and just change out the output shaft and tail shaft housing .They are usually much cheaper and easier to find .

How big of a deal is it to change the output shaft?

Also if its off a 6.0L make sure its really a 60e, IIRC most of those came with 80e`s, and the 4l65E was also available on the LQ9 6.0L. The 4l65e is almost identical to the 60e, it just has stronger internals, it is also an option for you.
