6 psi dyno pull... video inside * MY Build*
Ok. so we finally turned up the boost some. Of coarse there are issues.
Nothing to major. Ok, so the bad. The car stops making power Just over 5000 rpms, From 5100-6000 we actually go down 10-15 hp. We are pretty sure we are floating the valves do to the crapy stock/higher mileage stock springs. So i will get some new springs, and pushrods soon.
That being said we stoped @ 6psi for now, since we are having issues, but we got it all tuned in, afr's are 11.4, timing is 17*.
Car made 442 hp Around 5000 rpm, and 467 Ft-lb around 4700 Rpm. The best part is the 6psi pull vs the 3 psi pulls when the car was first tuned is around 100 ft-lb torque increase from 3 psi. we only picked up 50 hp or so, but at 3 psi we were peaking in power right around 5700 rpm's. There is still more to be had hear, and were still @ 6psi so i am happy with the results.
On the street, all i can say is Wow. It is just sick.

Let me know what you all think? do you agree its probably valve springs? or do you think there could be another issue? The car uses less fuel in the top end to, and the tuner was about 99.9% sure it was valve springs. What valve springs would you guys suggest? Thanks, Chris

Honestly, can't believe you are running the stock springs. I'd take the leap right to duals, don't bother with the 918's. They'd probably suffice but for the bit extra why not for the duals. The 918's use to have some bad issues but I beleive the new upgraded one's are ok now. I would also do the pushrods as a must to, especially when doing the springs. Heck, might as well find a nice used LS6 cam while you are at it! BTW, sounds sick! I can't wait for mine to be on the road, I am thinking of throwing the kit on the stock block until the 370 and 4l80e are done being built and I get my new rear. Allot less a bugs to work out too. Let us know how you make out!

i know people upgrade springs. I know its a saftey thing, but i never really thought its a must or everyone does it. Everyone says installing the duals is an absolute pain in the ***, and for this motor/these heads i dont really want much more then what im doing.
I was told ls6 springs would probably be ok, but i was thinking the 918's would be a little better then those. What other options do i have to stay away from dual's but not ls6 or 918. Thanks, Chris

If you even go to the sticky it will give you a guidline of highly reccommended, optional, etc. The springs are one of those things that should be done IMO.
If you aren't looking for too much more boost and staying with the stock cam the LS6 springs would probably suffice and are cheap too. I know the yellow one's are about 50 bucks or so and are good up to .550 lift, and pretty sure that the newer style one's are even rated higher. I believe there are 3 different colours and ratings starting at the yellow and up.
Call a sponsor is your best bet, but search doesn't hurt either. ****, might as well pick up some decent used 317 castings with upgraded spring on them. Add a bit of power, lower the cr half a point while getting the springs upgraded all at once. Adding insurance in more ways than one! I know you probably don't want to do that or spend that much, but a thought

....oh yeah! lol i was wondering why no one was IMing me last night!!
yeah dude sounds great, the DP right there where you have it at sounds badass!
i say you bump it up to about 10 psi to make it a nice low boost number stock block of course
oh and just go ahead and get the dual springs, single springs dont really settle easy with me just for the reason i've seen enough drop valves. at least with the duals you have alittle safety net going on for you

Stock crappy 98 cam/internals/heads....
Im really tempted to get ls6 springs since i only want 500 or so hp on this motor, when i build a motor i will get some heads which will have dual springs of coarse.
I like that patriot kit, not to bad since its springs, and ti retainers, and everything.
Hmmmmm... Chris

can you post a pic of your dyno graph? I just wanted to see if there were any spikes or sputter after 5000 rpms or if it just leveled off and did not more make any power.
Very Nice numbers BTW.
Thx,
Claude

Nice numbers through that m6. Specially with those 4.10s in the back. Should have a really nice power band once you change those out. Oh yea, I am going to be doing a very similiar setup very soon with my m6.
