Car wont start randomly, just cranks??? Im having a bad problem that i cant figure out.
I have a ls1 swapped 91 c4 corvette.
ive been driving the car everywhere for a couple months.
I was driving and the car just died. and then it started and wouldnt stay running like it was out of gas. So i put gas in it, and started right up 30 minutes later. Drove it 100 ft and it died..wouldnt start, just cranks.
When it cranks, it doesnt even try to start, just smooth cranking. It has fuel, ive checked at the fuel rail.
I tried starting it several times, i came back the next day and it fired right up, it ran fine for 2-3 minutes idling. I shut the car off and restarted 3 times in a row then 4th time it just cranked and wouldnt even try. I gave up trying to start again.
Next day it wouldnt start, then later that day it fired first try.
I put new spark plugs in, checked coil connections, plug wires, grounds to the heads, body to engine ground....fuel pump is manual switch and is on.
argh what would it be?????

Re: Car wont start randomly, just cranks??? When it just cranks and doesn't start, you need to find out whether it is fuel or spark.
I would monitor the following for when it decides not to start again.
Injector PW (keep the fuel rail and injectors connected and flip it over. Watch and make sure each injector fires in the proper order)
Fuel Pressure
Ignition Spark (pull a plug out connect it and see if it sparks)
If it is Fuel check the following sensors:
MAF
Engine Coolant Temp
MAP
Injector Plugs
VATS interlock wire to BCM. Check for proper ground
Fuel Pump Operation (Fuel Pressure should hold at 58 psi)
If it is spark
Crank Sensor
Cam Sensor
Tach signal at PCM
Coil Pack Plugs
