ok, i have little knowledge about alot of things on a car. what i would like to be explained is a fuel cell. what is it? im assuming its like a regular gas tank. Whats the difference between them? what would be the reason for someone changing from a stock gas tank to a fuel cell?

its mainly used for racing, its basically a rectangle box that holds fuel, and is usually put in the trunk

they are designed for not spilling fuel if the car is flipped, and they usually have foam/ a rubber "balloon" inside to protect fuel spillage if the car is hit from behind

there is no reason for someone to change from a fuel tank to a fuel cell unless they are into hardcore racing, or do circle track racing, or off roading, etc.

basically, its not needed in a stock car.

Fuel cells are lighter and can be made from steel, poly type plastic stuff or aluminum, you can have different types and size inlet and outlets, as well as change the position of where they are located. Like said some come with or without foam, bladders or baffles, they can be mounted in the rear or in the front of the car depending on the size.

If you have custom suspension stuff you may have to remove the stock gas tank. Either way if you're going with a HP motor setup with big fuel requirements they make sense to use and they also make some that mount in the stock location as well.

Another purpose is when you run a big shot of nitrous on a street car you can mount a small fuel cell under the hood with race gas in it and pump gas in the tank.
