Default Th400 Converter questions

I spoke to a local converter guy about building me a converter to mate my th400 to a LS but just wanted to clarify a couple things. I'm new to the LS crowd so please forgive me! If my research is correct I can use a '98 flex plate with a standard TH400 conv. so long as it has LS1 pilot dia. that is 3/8" longer without and spacers is that correct? Is there a better way to do it? Thanks for any info!
