th400 leaking bad please help

Default th400 leaking bad please help

it is leaking on the driver side of the transmission, i thought it would be the pan. it is not the pan or the gasket. it is leaking right by the shifter cable someone please help me.

If it is leaking at the shifter cable, then the manual lever shaft seal is defective and will need to be replaced.

Just an FYI..... It is not uncommon to see these units leak when they sit overnight or for a few days. The converter will drain back into the pan and the fluid level will then rise above the pan rail... then the gasket leaks. Not much you can do about it except "glue" the gasket to the pan and the case if it persists.

ok so i go to advance auto and i buy a shifter seal is that correct part number 8792s

anymore people can say where else can it be leaking form on the driver side

one of the favorite places for the th400 to leak is at the detent connection. the reason is the plastic connector shrinks and the "0" ring can't seal. fix, jack up drivers side remove connector and use epoxy. jb will work. good luck ps clean all surfaces with brake clean similar stuff.
