Default Painting wheels(rims)

Anyone have a how-to on painting rims? I LOVE my 17" WS6 rims from my old 96 WS6. I really want to keep this but I want to paint these rims.

I sanded, rattled can primed, sanded, masked, and acrylic enamel painted my old 98 rims. Came out better than factory.

1-sand with 120 then 220 (you may need to stat with a coarser grit and work your way up to get it real smooth)
2-wash with soap (dawn) and water and dry completely
3-wipe on wax and grease remover then wipe it back off (one section at a time)
4-wipe with tack rag
5-shoot primer and let it set up (read the can for times)
6-sand with 320 followed by a gray Scotch-brite pad
7-repeat steps 2-4
8-shoot base or single stage of your choice (if using single stage this is your last step)
9-let the base flash off (wait till it's not shinny any more) and shoot clear

Just wanted to mention: Before you start if you are painting the entire rim you will need to deflate the tire so you can get get proper adhesion and coverage on the lip, then tape off the tire. If you are doing just the center of the rim you will not need to deflate the tire just tape of everywhere you don't want pain or primer. Also I would recommend re-taping after you sand your primer before base or single stage and you will want to wait a few day before remounting.

Well since your painting over bare metal.... Scuff the **** out of them with a red scotch brite, spray a good self etching primer (Not rattle can) seal and spray your base then clear. No need to prime then sand them they are already smooth.

Being that they are 12 years old I figured they would not be 100% smooth, so there would be some serious sanding going on. If not then by all means scuff em up and shoot. The steps I put up there have worked for me countless times on old rally wheels from the 70s.
