Default Are 4:10 gears a good decision???

I have a 2001 camaro z28 6-speed. Right now it is my daily driver. there is a lid and catback exhaust on it. Possibly some headers with a offroad pipe in the future. I was at the track talking to a guy and he says throw some 4:10 gears in it and it will make a world of difference. Will this hurt my fuel economy alot? So i get a lil worse gas milage i dont mind but i dont wanna cut it in half. Tell me if 4:10s would be ok in my daily driver or if they are to high. thanks

4.10's will be great for a bolt on car .just be careful doing them 6k clutch dumps!. cuz they WILL break. . and yes your 6th gear will have purpose . if you know how to install gears properly or have someone install them properly. they will not make any noise.

fuel economy?.. well you have a camaro... haha it wouldnt hurt it that much , just keep your foot out of it

Yes..... the gears are a GREAT mod. Personally I never believed it would have been that great of a difference. My car is my DD and 98% of the time is on the street. By far one the most purposeful mods in a M6. I would say go for it.

because your car is a M6, the 4.10s won't hurt fuel mileage that much if any. 4.10s are preffered for the M6 cars, and 3.73s in A4 cars. you will notice alot more 6th gear useage, like others have said...but you should still be able to cruise at 75-80 at 2k in 6th gear. and if installed right, there will be no noise.

These cars should have came with 4.10s from the factory!

Don't worry about fuel mileage. With my heads/cam/4.10 geared car, I still knock out right at 25 mpg on the highway, and mixed driving, with some beating on it here and there of course, I RARELY get below 20.

Oh, and they won't make noise if they are set up correctly. I did mine myself, and they were DEAD quiet....well, at least for the first 500 miles or so while I drove it easy

4.10s will be perfect for you. Fuel mileage will go down 2mpg tops, the driveability will be unaffected, and if they are set up correctly they should be very quiet(small amount of whine is possible). If you have an MN6 then you will be wasting your time with anything less than 3.90s unless you are pushing some serious hp/tq numbers.

Your times should go down and the car's fun factor should go up.
