Default cracked oil pan

Somehow my oil pan has a crack in it. In the middle of the pan towards the rear of the car. A little less than 2 inches long and leaks maybe 1 drop a minute.

Originally was going to have it welded. I've been told though that the oil pan is different than a traditional sbc oil pan. It's actually under a lot of stress as it is actually part of the block. Is this true?

Yes; it is intregal component that abosorbs stress from the block...

You could probably weld it if the crack is not bad, however.

Thanks Robert, that's the kind of stuff I need to hear. The crack isn't really bad at all, but it's still a crack.

Any other opinions please?

Just have it welded by someone that knows how to weld aluminum. I have modified many pans to retrofit the LS1's and the welding works just fine unfortunately some pans have more porosity than others and the welding can be a real pain.
