I was wondering if there are any decent painters out there who have the hook ups at a shop and are willing to do a sidejob for some cash...I have been driving around with a grey, mate black, messed up clear coat car for too long now...

Blk SS with after market front and side fenders....rest of the body is pretty damn straight with two dings...Going to paint it black again and am willing to do tons of prepping myself like sanding with proper instruction and tips...

What paint, clear, primer is recommended....any help/ideas?????

I day is decent, not great. If you use one day jerk the taillights headlights any lights antenna emblems wipers off the car. and if they do lousy tell them no dice and they will paint it AGAIN.

I'd sand it myself also, those spider cracks are a pain in the ass but if you sand it with like 150 and than feather it out with 320/400 and primer it itll come out well they will NOT get that shit right if you dont at least start the job

One a day, MAACO, and any other shop is only as good as the people working there... EVERY location will be different, no two MACCO' will do the same job each one will vary depending on the guy whos doing the work

80% of the job is in prep, even the laziest of painters can lay down a solid coat if the cars prepped nicely. You could always prep the car your self and have them spray it.

Personally when I take my car to get painted I'm going to drop off a 24 pack of Corona and make sure they know whos car they're working on before I hand over the keys

I paint but your talking $3000 with ZERO bodywork, but that is a SHOW quality finish. If you prep the car yourself (very well) you can actually get a decent paint job from Macco or Mastercraft. Most people really have NO idea what goes into a really nice paint job, just remember you get what you pay for. Dont expect to be able to see your stubble in a Macco job and you'll be happy, its just a quick cheap and fiarly decent job.....

Go to Maaco in Orange
670 N Batavia St, Orange, CA 92868
(714) 771-7107

Jerry Zanka is the owner and he dealt with me personally. Total color change (red > black) on my old Thirdgen for around $600.00. Ended up with a couple of drips and runs, but nothing at all noticable--especially for $600.00! Great job and a pleasure to deal with.

It helps if you go on an off day. I worked right down the street, so I could see that it got slow for a couple of weeks. Maaco has quotas, so he was willing to cut a deal. If you're near any chain body shop like maaco, earl sheib, etc, try to scope it out. They all have quotas to fill and most will whore out some labor just to meet their target numbers.

thanks for the info brandotron....did you prep your car before you turned over the keys to them?

No, I didn't do any prep work at all! I was actually just going there for a quote when the guy gave me an awesome price AND a rental car--I just left it there as it was. I drove the car for about a year and a half before it was unfortunately totaled by a taxi cab. I had the integrated clearcoat and I got it waxed every three months - it looked like new til it was killed.

Pic is attached. Taken when I got home from Maaco.
