Default Need help removing the carrier assembly

It is a torsen style carrier. Cross bolt and the center piece are removed to get the C-Clips. bearing caps are removed and axles pulled. How do I remove the carrier?

Take a big pry bar and pry against one of the ring gear bolts and the left side of the case with one hand and holding the carrier with the other. I use a 48" Snap on bar.

What he said, except I always leave the caps on with the bolts about 3-4 turns in.

Those carriers *can* pop out suddenly and crush fingers/hands if you aren't careful.

Once you get it loose, just keep one hand on the carrier, and take the bolts back out.

or put a box wrench on a ring gear bolt, turn the yoke by hand until the box wrench almost touches the top of the rear, wedge a rag in between the box wrench and the top of the rear and use a pry bar to tuen the yoke, the pinion will push the carrier out as you spin the yoke

Should I reinstall the center piece and cross bolt that I removed to get at the C-clips before I do this?

No, but loosely installing the main caps will keep it from flopping out onto the floor when you start prying/etc on it.

Thanks. I will take your advice. I am basicly parting out this rear end. Had the pinion nut come loose and got a few teeth marks on the carrier
