Hey guy I've got a friend with a 2001 Camaro Z28 and I have helped him replace the alternator 3 times. He was told it was the fusible link that goes hooked up to the alternator at the back. After the third swap we replaced the wire and he hasn't had anymore problems. I don't know if this will help but it might be a start. Oh and the alternator he installed was also from Autozone. He took it back the second time and when they tested the alternator it was bad, and it was only a day old. You should take it off and get it tested. It also might be a defective one.

I've heard bad things about the Autozone alternators. However, this is not from personal experience but I have heard/read alot of guys complain about them. It's a crap shoot as to whether or not you get a good one. Bought mine from ebay...160amp....has worked fine for over a year now.
