okay, so I want a 370rwhp sleeper cam, EXPERTS inside!
I've been browsing this forum for awhile now. Still I have yet to see a thread specifically for people who want a lot of power but have a stock sounding idle. I know a lot of you will frown for this, but it is for a sleeper. The car in question is a 2002 Black Camaro Z28 A4 with a TCI SSF 3500 torque converter with stock exhaust manifolds and stock exhaust. What would be a reliable, cheap (keyword: CHEAP) cam that I could tune with LS1 edit to make atleast 370rwhp yet sound like a stock car?

You'll have to have headers to get to that power level with a small cam. My car sounds stock with the little TR220 and makes good power.

Well, I made 357 RWHP the other day in my 2002 A4 SS with the LS6 cam, a Thunder Racing ported TB, and a DirectFlo Lid. Everything else was stock, including manifolds, cat-back, cats. And that was with 18" chrome wheels. I was getting 2-4 degrees of knock retard and only 23 degrees of timing max. I would be willing to bet that I could get 370RWHP out of that setup with tuning and gutting the cats. With that stall converter, you are going to need a bigger cam. It will soak up power as far as dyno numbers go. I'll have some results of the TR Old Man Cam next monday hopefully compared to the LS6 cam setup I had in my car.

Old man cam is 429.99 I believe.
You can't do a Cam cheaply because you need to upgrade the springs.

I am willing to pay around $250 for a cam and $100 for springs, I plan on using the rest of the stock valvetrain. What is the most power I could make without it being noticed? Anyone have a similar setup?

most cams r $400 so ur u need to adjust ur budget... i would try the MTI stealth cam, that is probably the closest to what u want... ported heads would definately get u to 400rwhp... do u have an airlid at least? a lid and catback will get u a good 20hp... its a start...

Yeah a lot of people end up getting to big for their britches and move on to bigger and better cams. 200 or 250 soundsabout like market price for a used cam.

I agree with BadAndy. New cams are going to run you anywhere from $350+. If you are looking for a cam for $250, you better start browsing the classifieds. lol

Drill, c'mon your getting all the extra pay and perks, need to stop being so tight about the $$$. Mod that puppy. Or is it you have a budget from household6 and need to A) sneak a little $$$ out form her and B) idle home after install like nothings up? Besides TN aint a test state
Go wide on the lsa for smoother idle but you move peak up higher in band.

You could make 370 with a Stealth cam, bolt-ons, and stock manifolds (though I highly recommend headers.)
I made 359 with the stock cam and bolt-ons (including headers.) I think that if I swapped on the stock manifolds and installed a Stealth I'd be somewhere around 380 RWHP. Add the headers back and I'd be over 400.

I have a brand new 2003 LS6 cam & springs out of a crate motor that I'll sell you for $250 + shipping. Thats cam and springs, brand new never been turned over once. Let me know quick before I decide to put it in my car.

Normally I would suggest a TR 200 cam on a 114 with a 800 - 850 rpm idle. Without any exhaust mods you are killing yourself on that side, so i would suggest a split duration. The '02 LS6 cam would be a good choice, but the LS6 springs are not up to the task on an F-body because your valves are heavier so you'll need 918's.

with heads a mild cam will get you there(+TUNING)
but without heads....its gonna take pretty agressive and lopey to get there...Heads are next for me...I have ls6 intake on the way already...heads probably this coming march or april..... I should see around 450 at rear wheels when I am thru...(and BTW....I thought I would stop with exhaust...then I felt he power and I keep spendin')

you cant have your cake and eat it to. you bought such a fine piece of engineering, treat it right when it comes to mods.
hold off and save up some more money and do it righ, better done right the first time then having something break and having to tear apart the engine again.
