Default LS4 catchcan?

Is there anybody that makes them? my buddies '06 Impala SS burns about a quart every 3k miles or so and he'd like to get a catchcan for it to lower the amount he burns and then he can just drop it outta the can and put back in the car.

That's a problem that needs to be addressed.

Negative Effects of your Stock PCV System:
Many Corvette, Camaro, Firebird and GTO owners with LSX engines can
testify to the amount of oil residue that can accumulate inside the intake manifold,
throttle body, intake track and even the air filter during aggressive driving
conditions.

There are various negative effects when excess oil vapor contaminates the intake
system from the stock PCV system - such as:

*Throttle body and/or MAFS (Mass Air Flow Sensor) malfunction or failure.

*Air filter, intercooler (if equipped) and intake ducting contamination if oil pools and run back out the intake system after engine shutdown.

*Reduced octane of the air/fuel mixture, which can cause detonation and the ECM (Engine Control Module) to retard timing, thereby reducing engine power.

*Excessive carbon build-up on valves, piston crowns, combustion chambers and spark plugs. This also increases the chance of detonation and power loss.

*Increased emissions & possible contamination of catalytic converters and oxygen sensors.

I'm in the process of turbocharging my car. The catch can that I am going with is made by Norris Motorsports. It's a good piece that is priced at $120.

Go to E-bay and under car parts and accessories type in "oil catch can." They are about 20 dollars plus shipping. All the ones I saw were aluminum or stainless. I am just going to get one of those and call it a day. They come with mounting hardware too. The hardest part is deciding where to put it in the engine bay.

not all catch cans work, so be cautious. your better off, getting the higher priced ones just to be on the safe side. im not saying that we need to spend hundreds of dollars, im just trying to be helpful. i spent an hr reading up on this issue a few days ago and learned a lot. gm is aware of this issue and tried to correct the pcv issue back in the first gen ls6 days. they found that the motors were sucking excessive oil above 5k, so they tried to move the pcv system to the valley tray which only helps a bit. we have high volume oil pumps and a built in pcv system that is in the intake, and with synthetic oil, combined with low tension oil rings cause lots of problems in the upper portion of our power band. i go through a quart of oil every 3k and when i pulled my tb off to install my headers my intake and tb was covered with oil. im going to install a ls2 valley tray with a catch can with my intake. my valve stems are fine i replaced the seals when i did my springs.

You could always try it and find out. If oil gets collected on the bottom then it works. For me that would be about a qt at 3k. I'm sure some gets lost and burned up in other places so maybe 1/2-3/4 qt

I'm pretty lucky, 44k on the clock and doesn't lose any oil between 3000 mile oil changes. **knock on wood**

yeah, exactly!

I go 5-6000 between changes with mobil 1, and don't lose any oil anywhere either...

you guys must have followed the break-in procedure and babied the car when you first got it, and things didn't fully seat and seal... heh...

I don't lose any oil, but 20 bucks is cheap insurance.

Gotta drive it like ya stole it!
